Volkswagen Caddy: The Golf Based Pickup Truck
June 8, 2013

Whether you are an avid golfer who is interested in buying a truck in the near future or are simply intrigued by the vehicles offered by various auto manufacturers out there these days, the Volkswagen Caddy is one model that you may want to check out for yourself. This particular model of pickup truck by Volkswagen was completely designed with the golfer in mind, making it the ideal new car for those who spend a lot of time on golf courses. However, this can also be a wonderful truck for those who need a light commercial vehicle with the reliability of a Golf platform.
The Volkswagen Caddy was first introduced in 1980 and was based on the Golf Mk1 platform. It was essentially a Golf with the rear portion of the body replaced by a small pickup bed. This made it extremely practical while maintaining the excellent driving dynamics of the Golf.
The Caddy used the same engines as the Golf, including various petrol and diesel options. The four-cylinder engines were economical and reliable, making the Caddy popular with small businesses and tradespeople throughout Europe.
Over the years the Caddy has evolved considerably. The second generation, based on the Polo platform, arrived in 1996. The third generation returned to Golf underpinnings in 2004 and became available as a van version as well as the traditional pickup. Today, the Caddy continues to be one of Volkswagen's most versatile and practical offerings.
